I'm a huge Jack Carr fan. I’ve been hooked since The Terminal List. There’s something truly authentic about Carr’s writing that you don’t see with many authors. Carr actually walked in the shoes of his protagonist.
Another thing I appreciate about Carr is the level of research he puts into his novels. If you’ve ever listened to any of his podcasts or interviews, Carr talks about wanting to make sure he puts his all into every book because that is time that his readers invest that they can’t get back. When you read one of his books, this is evident. The detail, the depth. Carr goes all in to make sure that facts that come up in his novels can’t be refuted.
Enter Only The Dead. This is Carr’s longest and, maybe, most brutal thriller yet. The intense, fast-paced action that readers have come to expect for Carr is there. Carr masterfully weaves the story together and gives fans a joy ride they won’t soon forget.
The one thing this novel shows is Carr’s growth as a writer. There are moments in this book that show a depth we haven’t seen from Carr in previous novels. The way he dives into Reece’s mind and shows the inner turmoil we all know Reece faces is splendid. It makes readers excited to see where Carr will take us next time.
This novel answers so many questions that have been kicked around since The Terminal List. While Carr has closed the door on some things, he leaves the door wide open. Its going to be exciting to see what Carr has in store for James Reece in the next installment.
